Rolling Stone always has the best of this or the best of that. This time they have the Reader's Rock List of Best Album Covers of 2008. There are 25 to choose from.
With DVDs we don't get to appreciate album covers anymore. They really used to be a big deal; something to really appreciate. You stored your album in the album cover, and while you played your album, you might look over the cover each time. Sometimes the cover might even open like a book and you could read information inside, or look at more information or photos inside. Or the sleeve might have cool stuff on it. So now what are called "album covers" most often tossed aside when people take their DVDs and put them in holders, or they copy their music onto iPods. It's really a shame. Out of the 25 album covers in Rolling Stones (Reader's Rock List) Best Album Covers of 2008 I could really only find one that stodd out, which is the one right here... Black Mountain, In The Future There was a close second. I think out of all the choices, none really blew me away. They were about as exciting as this one: You can view the Rolling Stones (Reader's Rock List) Best Album Covers of 2008 HERE

Those of you who read these blogs have probably had your fill of lists and links this past couple weeks. I know I have.
My list is short, with one item on it.
I'll call it the "F" list for FranklinNow.
My list:
1. You, the readers of my blog (this one and my Righty Blog if you go there, too).
Thank you for reading in 2008 and I wish you all a very Happy and Healthy New Year!
And on that note, I want to know if anyone is celebrating tonight with one of these?
A Porta-Party?

What's a Port-A-Party? I'm glad you asked! It's too late to rent one now if you haven't already for tonight. But you can find out about it here
I'll don't think you'll be finding a Porta-Party at any of my parties.

So what's the infatuation with shirtless world leaders (or world leaders to be)?
I guess whenever you have a chance to get that protective armor off from under a shirt, you've got to take advantage of it.
While some may enjoy the sights, there are others who may be thinking more along these lines:
Seinfeld's Cosmo Kramer invention... An idea for a support for men.

Time has a list of the All-Time 100 Best Films.
Now we all know, just because someone else says something is the best...deosn't mean it's your best. But hthis is a great list to have, especially if you are an fan of classic movies.
So, if you believe a movie truly was left off the list, speak up. Or if you are dumbounded that one is on the list, speak out.
I for one was surprised Barry Lyndon made the list. It's a movie I saw only once, in the theater, but I was impressed with it at the time. I never viewed the movie again since, but I've never forgotten the name of it over the years. I guess it wasn't just the young Ryan O'Neil who stayed on my mind. It probably deserves another viewing according to the review:
he director dreamed of telling stories entirely through images, and in this extraordinarily beautiful existentialist anti-epic he came close to realizing that goal. In 18th century England his eponymous protagonist peers into the candle-lit dimness of stately homes, seeking clues to correct behavior. He learns enough to rise in society, but not enough to prevent his fall. In its cover story, TIME, almost alone, predicted history would judge the film a masterpiece. Thirty years later, history is beginning to agree.—R.S. From the TIME Archive: Kubrick demonstrates singularity of vision, mature mastery of his medium, near-reckless courage in asserting through this work a claim to greatness that time alone can—and probably will—confirm I think this is a great list. It may even help you select a clasic movie for a last minute Christmas gift. Click Here for the list

Since it's St. Nick's Day, why not relax for 25 minutes to see a young John Travolta play "Barbarino" in Welcome Back, Kotter in a "Sweathog Christmas Special."
A classic brought to you from Hulu.
Merriment, mistletoe and menorahs are the beginnings of a Merry Christmas celebration with the Sweathogs and Gabe and Julie Kotter.

Oh, wow, this is worrisome. Is it possible msnbc Hardball host, Chris Matthews, is going to run for Senator of Pennsylvania?
That's the buzz.
And we thought Sonny Bono in politics was scary.
" (The Politico) Chris Matthews is dead serious about running for the Senate in Pennsylvania - and shopping for a house in the state and privately discussing quitting MSNBC as proof of his intense interest, according to NBC colleagues, political operatives, and friends.
The garrulous host of the show "Hardball with Chris Matthews" has already picked out a home in Philadelphia to establish residency in the state, according to a Democratic operative in discussions with him about a potential candidacy. Over Thanksgiving weekend, at his vacation house in Nantucket, Matthews’ family gave him their full backing.
As speculation surrounding his potential candidacy heats up, Matthews has also been asking advisers whether to step down from his MSNBC post well before his contract expires in June. At one recent meeting, he was advised that if he truly intends to run, he should resign from the network as soon as possible."

Harvey Bernard Milk, Politician and Gay Activist
"The research for "Milk" was an unusually productive example of how archives and scholarship can influence Hollywood and popular culture, participants said."
The movie, starring Sean Penn, is timely, with Prop 8 in the news of late and gay activism at a high.
It will no doubt be controversial, but it will be based on fact, right down to the suit San Francisco Supervisor Harvey Milk was wearing when he was gunned down, assassinated, in 1978.
"Reporting from San Francisco -- The sight may be a little shocking, Paul Boneberg warned a visitor. And it was.
There, removed from tissue-paper wrappings in a storage box, were the wingtip shoes, striped suit and white shirt that gay activist and San Francisco Supervisor Harvey Milk wore Nov. 27, 1978, the day he was assassinated. Dark bloodstains remained visible around the shirt collar, and small holes -- from bullets -- could be seen in the suit's blue and gray material."

It’s just too cute to pass up. I can’t help it. Sometimes I need reminders of when my kids were this age. It’s been a long, long time.
You've gotta love Joey...
From 1972. Kermit the Frog tries to sing the alphabet song with a little girl named Joey, but she keeps teasing him by singing "Cookie Monster" instead of various letters. One of the many segments with The Muppets interacting with children.

Wired has a list of what they believe are the 20 worst film and T.V. "Turkeys" of the year. I didn't see any of them, so I couldn't tell you. I guess none of them sounded good to me.
You can look at that list
HERE
It got me thinking, though. What was the worst movie of all time that I believe I have seen. I'm a big fan of comedy. But I'll tell you something, I like "suspense" movies, but I deplore those movies of the "slasher" type. I guess I'm not going to get into my reasoning on why I can't stand them. It would be like a major political discussion and it would probably never end.
In the 70s there seemed to be a turning point regarding movies. The Exorcist and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre came out. Back then, just to sit in the theater with your eyes shut and listen to the sound on the Exorcist was enough to send chills up your spine. Now, it's nothing. I still can't think about watching The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and don't know how I managed to make it through that original movie. I think it is only because we were out with friends that I sat through the entire showing. I can still picture certain scenes in my mind...from all those years ago.
Which brings me to what I think is the worst movie I have ever seen. And I have to say I didn't give it much of a chance. It was the early 70s and my husband and I would go to movies inside the theater at Southridge Mall, outside at Mayfair, or at one of the two theaters on HWY 100 near Big Boy restaurant. This was an afternoon showing at a HWY 100 theater on a chilly day this time of year. The movie was Black Christmas and starred Olivia Hussey and Margot Kidder. We started watching and I swear, I only saw what seemed to be five minutes of the movie and that was it...it has to be one of the only movies in my life that I have ever left. I didn't care...we were out of there.
On Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, you see the knife, and that's all you need to see. And then you see the body afterwords. I don't need any more than that. In a good Bette Davis "B" suspense movie, she was scary enough, and a good old Twilight Zone packed with science fiction and wonder can put that twinge of worry into your mind.
I know what's out there now, what's evolved since Black Christmas. Maybe people compare it to a roller coaster ride? Wanting to watch that stuff? I don't know.
Bette Davis and Joan Crawford in "Whatever Happened To Baby Jane?" 1962
Hmm..I wonder if that would have been a "Turkey" of the year? But I like watching the movie.

Wired brings you Autopia’s 10 Best Songs About Cars. But before you go there to see their choices, you need to listen to one they left off their list of top 10 (they put it as honorable mention).
How can you leave War’s 1975 Low Rider out of the top 10 when you are showing off music about cars? Even if, according to Autopia, everyone says it's one of their favorites? I want to hear it.And now, drive off to Wired for their 10 Best Songs About Cars…maybe you’ll agree, maybe not.
But their #1 is one of my favorites!

If so, I feel bad for you.
Better luck next year.

Wasn’t that what the Beatles were in the first place?
Avant-garde?
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band? Magical Mystery Tour? Abbey Road? Not avant-garde?
I can’t wait to hear “Carnival of Light.” Just some warming up of instruments perhaps?
Paul…we liked you…just the way you were. Just tell us you found a jam session.
"I said it would be great to put this on because it would show we were working with really avant-garde stuff," McCartney told Radio 4's Front Row culture show in an interview to be broadcast on Thursday.
[...]
"Hit a drum then wander on to the piano, hit a few notes, just wander around. So that's what we did and then put a bit of an echo on it. It's very free."

Looks like the divorce and the economy may have given McCartney a reason to need a few bucks.
I call this avant-garde...

Oh, boy…
This is twice today I broke my own rule and I’m bringing up Christmas before Thanksgiving.
I did it this morning on Righty Blog. I just came across this clip of the Rockettes and I thought they looked so cute in their little outfits. I was wondering if people really watch the Rockettes anymore?
And so, even though I wish they were wearing turkey or pilgrim costumes….I now bring to you, the Radio City Rockettes performing in Rockefeller Plaza...

A sleep-deprived office worker accidentally discovers a black hole - and then greed gets the better of him...
I love great short films.
This will now remain on my list of favorites.
You almost had to go the classic route of greed…
But if this were to happen in real life (I know, I know) what would you do with it?
Of course the possibilities are endless…but something with travel sure would be nice.

Well, we know it isn’t the President doing this stuff…they have staff.
And you have to keep public relations up, right?

Remember when Michael Jackson shocked the world with his dangling of his baby over the balcony?
Well, did we all just take that as immaturity? Poor parenting skills? Attention-getting? Just plain stupidity?
Whatever it was…I just had a semi form of déjà vu while I was looking for a video clip tonight.
You have to check this old video clip out.
And while you are there, you will probably get a kick out of some of the other clips on the right side-bar, if you have a few minutes to spend perusing the site of

Dear Alderman Taylor,
I was wondering if you’ve noticed how bad S. 51st Street is getting lately?
It’s deteriorating so quickly, I’m hoping it doesn’t end up looking like this:

Or this......

What I really wish was, someone was doing this...so we wouldn't have to worry about it...

But my shocks are telling me differently.
Anyway...I know you are aware of the problem, and this was just some Friday fun, so a smart-assed reply would be welcomed.
